A selection of reports – some free, some paid for – that we think readers of theDelivery.World will want to read.

Is Stacking Hurting the Delivery Market?

This report delves into the pressing issue of order stacking in food delivery, offering unique insights based on millions of orders tracked by thousands of delivery riders using the Rodeo app. It tackles the complexities of stacking, a practice where delivery drivers handle multiple orders simultaneously, and its impact on key stakeholders such as drivers, restaurants, and customers.

Order stacking has long been heralded as a key efficiency booster in on-demand delivery. By increasing the number of orders a driver can complete per hour, it theoretically leads to higher driver earnings and reduced costs for restaurants. However, this report uncovers the nuanced reality behind the numbers. While platforms like Uber Eats and Deliveroo have increasingly pushed for more stacking, the benefits are not always clear-cut, especially for drivers and restaurants. The report also highlights discrepancies in stacking practices by restaurant brands, further underscoring the uneven impact of stacking on different parts of the food delivery ecosystem.

For delivery drivers, this report uncovers the harsh reality of falling pay rates across all stacking types, with multi-pickup orders now yielding the least amount of pay per hour. Moreover, the report shows that customers can now pay a premium for express or priority delivery to avoid their orders being stacked - yet this hasn't significantly impacted overall stacking trends.

This an essential read for industry professionals, restaurant owners, delivery platform operators, and anyone interested in the evolving dynamics of the food delivery market.

India Foodservice Delivery Report

I have partnered with two leading figures in the Indian restaurant market – Samir Kuckreja – founder of Tasanaya Hospitality, restaurateur and former president of the National Restaurant Association of India – and Jasper Reid - founder of IMM, director of Wendy’s and Jamie Oliver restaurants in India.

Together we have produced this 100-page, comprehensive report on the foodservice delivery market in India including measurement of the market, its TAM (Total Addressable Market) and future prospects based on the market sizing approach I have developed for the UK, USA and other international markets. Detailed, in depth discussions have been held with leading players across the Indian restaurant market and with key delivery companies and dark kitchen operators.

The report includes an analysis of the major players, food ordering trends, market growth potential, commentary on the drivers of this dynamic market and the effect that covid has had on the prospects for restaurant delivery.

How to Make Money from Restaurant Delivery

Delivery has made huge strides during covid when it provided a lifeline to financial security for many operators – especially those who had previously vowed not to use delivery. In doing so, new business options (such as virtual brands) have emerged and dark kitchens have developed an ecosystem that includes standalone and piggyback models.

These developments have taken place globally and yet old problems remain, notably the perennial issue of profitability – or rather lack of it – for operators and aggregators. In my latest whitepaper I investigate ways to put that right.
